Animal Production Department was one of the first deparments established in the Faculty of Agriculture. Originally, it included both animal science and poultry science before they split into two seperate departments in 1991. The main deparment's mission is to produce graduates who are capable of dealing with various aspects of animal production from various livestock species along with fish production.

The curriculum followed fot the B.Sc. in animal production has been developed to ensure it,s modernization to be compatible with international standards and also meets the requirements of the prevailing animal production systems and the job market.

Degrees Offered

The department also offers both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in various specialization of animal production and fish production . In addition the department offers a one-year deplom in fish production for B.Sc. holders.

Research Interest

The department has a strong reaserch program in various areas of livestock and fish production including breeding ,physiology, nutrition and husbandy. Major areas of research in which the department participated at the national level are the development of local feed resources for livestock, the utilization of biotechnology of animal production and reproduction and the pollution and its efects on animal and fish production.

Academic Activities

The department cooperates with both national and international research organizations of conferences and scientific meeting .

The department has various community services activities including performing laboratory analysis on feeds and animal material providing conclusion to animal production enterprises and organizing symposia workshop and conferences .
