Department of Economic Entomology
Entomology is the study of insects and related arthropods. Economic entomology focuses on the relations of insect to plants and animals.
Courses of entomology fall into two groups: general courses for the public and professional courses provide scientific knowledge for research, teaching, and different related activities in government and private sector.
Activities
The Department of Economic Entomology at Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University offers over 35 undergraduate and graduate courses to meet the needs of all students.
The Department organizes National Conference and workshops.
Also, the department has recognized graduate program, leading to the M. Sc. or Ph.D. degree.
A wide variety of opportunities for graduate study are offered in several areas of research in which the faculty members have established expertise. These areas include Biological control, Apiculture, Economic Entomology of Field crops & Horticulture, Integrated pest management, Insect ecology, morphology, physiology, Insects and its relation to plant diseases, stored-product insects, Sericulture, and medical & veterinary entomology.
Location and Resources
Economic Entomology Department is located in the fourth floor of the main building of the Faculty of Agriculture. Well-equipped laboratories are available for all described programs.
Facilities include computers, greenhouses, and rearing rooms.
Field research is conducted at the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES), Mansoura University. Cooperative research programs exist with the faculty of Agriculture Departments of Agronomy; Plant Pathology; Horticulture, Botany, and Genetics.
