The Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF), Call for Proposals, Research Support &Technology Development Grant (RSTDG)

This grant is a fast track grant suggested to provide funding for small and short term activities which contribute to the country's scientific research and technology development culture and infrastructure, and to improve the researchers' capabilities and the quality of research. Specifically, the main objectives of this grant are:

• To improve the working environment for researchers.
• To avoid the limitations that may affect the quality of day-to-day scientific research activities;
• To support Egyptian scientists and innovators in conducting different research and technology development activities, including concept validation and prototyping.
• To be given the opportunity to prove the concept of a long term research project.
• To be given the opportunity to transform a theoretical finding into a working model and/or prototype.

The grant covers projects in the areas identified by the Higher Council for Science and Technology and the Supreme Council for Research Institutes as strategic areas for scientific research and technology development, which are (but not limited to):

• New and renewable energy
• Water resources and desalination
• Life sciences (basic sciences, environmental sciences, medical and pharmaceutical sciences)
• Food and agriculture
• Space technology and its applications
• Information and communication technology
• Social sciences and humanities
• Industrial development
• Urban planning and housing
• Advanced and new technologies (e.g. Biotechnology Nanotechnology, and Nano-biotechnology) related to any of the above mentioned areas
• Prototype development, feasibility demonstration and concept validation
