Faculty of Agriculture Welcomes Lithuanian Scientific Delegation to Strengthen Research Cooperation
The Seed Pathology and Tissue Culture Laboratory (accredited according to ISO 17025:2017), along with the Electron Microscopy Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, received a Lithuanian scientific delegation, including Prof. Dr. Laima Cesoniene and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daiva Sileikiene from the Department of Environment and Ecology, Faculty of Forest Sciences and Ecology.
The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Yasser Shabana, Director of the Laboratory and Unit, who organized a scientific tour presenting the laboratory’s research capabilities and services provided to researchers at both local and regional levels, in the fields of seed pathology, tissue culture, and advanced diagnostic and analytical techniques.
The meeting included a presentation of the results of the Newton-Mosharafa and Newton-Impact projects, which addressed the impact of climate change on wheat and maize diseases in Egypt. The projects were funded by the British Council and the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF).
Research efforts to develop a bioherbicide for controlling Orobanche (broomrape) in faba bean and other legumes were also presented, within the framework of supporting sustainable agriculture and enhancing food security.
The delegation was accompanied during the visit by Prof. Dr. Walid Nassar, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sobhi, International Relations Coordinator at the Faculty of Agriculture.
